"Lady of Valor" Story
Diaochan was one of the Four Great Beauties of China. She lived during the Han Dynasty. Her father, Wangyun, was a loyal minister of the Han emperor. He became increasingly disturbed over the monopolization of power by an evil warlord, Dongzhou, and his adopted son, Lu Bu. As a team, they were invincible. Noting her father’s distress, Diaochan volunteered to aid in any way possible. In a plot to divide and conquer, Wangyun betrothed her to Lu Bu, at the same time promising her to Dongzhuo as a concubine. Both men fell in love with her, and became intensely jealous of each other, causing an irreparable rift. Eventually, Wangyun gained Lu Bu’s assistance in assassinating Dongzhou, thus saving the empire from destruction.
