Yang Guifei was one of the Four Great Beauties of China. She was the Tang emperor's favorite concubine, and because of his obsession with her, the enemies of the kingdom were able to invade the imperial city. So the emperor, together with his wives and children, the army and the generals, fled south till they got to the little village of Mawei. There the generals dug in their heels and gave the emperor an ultimatum. They demanded the death of Yang Guifei, whom they considered responsible for their predicament. History says that she was forced to commit suicide, but some people believe she was smuggled to Japan where she lived out the rest of her life. The fact is that she is the only Chinese woman the Japanese painters paint, and there's rumored to be Yang Guifei's tomb in Japan.
