"Miao Shan" Story
Miao Shan was the youngest of three daughters of a King in Southern China. She incurred her father's wrath by refusing to marry, choosing instead, the spiritual life of a nun. In anger, he ordered her execution. The Tiger was dispatched by the Gods to rescue Miao Shan, and he carried her to the Yellow Mountains, where she spent the next few years embracing the spiritual life. Then, news arrived of her father's incurable illness. At a great sacrifice, she brewed the miracle potion, which saved the King's life. Pleased with her filial love and devotion, they made her a Goddess, and she is revered today as Kwan Yin, Goddess of Mercy.
