During the reign of Chien-Lung, Emperor of the Ching Dynasty in China, there were frequent battles over border disputes with Mongolia. During one of these battles, the King of Mongolia was killed. Chien-Lung, Emperor of China, saw the rare beauty of the Queen of Mongolia and fell in love with her. He kidnapped her, and brought her back to Beijing to become his concubine.
Chien-Lung tried to buy her love. He had a pure white pagoda built just to see her smile. He showered her with the most exquisite silks and jewels, but to her dying day, she never relinquished her love for her dead husband.
The five-toed dragon in her robes symbolizes her love, the King of Mongolia, the phoenix symbolizes the Queen, so that even though they are separated by death, spiritually they will always be one. The wedding knot in the horses tail symbolizes the bond that will never be broken.
