"Guardians of the East and West" Story
The Dragon and the Tiger represent balance of power, the yin and yang in nature. This creates harmony in the home. The Tiger is the guardian of the West, the Dragon does the same in the East. The Dragon symbolizes the male (yang) energy; he is associated with excitation and thunder. The Tiger is the female (yin) energy; he represents joyousness, sensibility and feeling. "When the Tiger roars the valley wind comes. When the Dragon arises great clouds appear." (Ancient Chinese Saying).
